Swimming with Whale Sharks in Cenderawasih Bay…
Cendrawasih Bay (Indonesian: Teluk Cenderawasih) means ‘Bird of Paradise Bay’. Extending over 14,535km², this national park includes coastal and mangrove ecosystems, coral reefs, island tropical forest ecosystems, and marine waters. The marine park itself spans 80km², making it the largest in Southeast Asia. The park is home to a huge range of land and marine life, including the Bird of Paradise, Green, Hawksbill, Leatherback and Olive Ridley turtles, mammals such as dugongs, dolphins, blue whales and whale sharks, and over 955 species of fish. When not being mesmerised by the marine life, guests can marvel at the WW2 artefacts, including bomber planes and ships, that lie scattered throughout the bay. Until recently, the bay was geologically isolated from the flow of the Pacific tides; this isolation has blessed Cenderawasih with a wide variety of endemic species. Prepare to sail through some of the most breathtaking and extraordinary scenery in complete luxury and comfort.
